Silly Love Songs

This piece had its origins in a blacksmithing project I had done in which a fireplace poker handle was fabricated in the shape of a heart. I tried to simplify the design by forging the double spiral and the heart lobes separately. This also allowed me to use heavier square stock for the lobes and round bar for the spiral. While the final piece came out great, the process was hardly simple. The connection between the round and square stock was tricky, but I managed to get the riveted look I was hoping for. I really love the idea that this piece features two-independent pieces of steel that combine to create and support something beautiful.

Blown glass vessel and forged mild steel spirals and heart shape. Flame-cut mild steel base. Tig welded.
