This photo series shows the process by which I make my unique Spiral Vase design.
| Spirals are fascinating to me and as I look into one my mind naturally follows the seemingly endless curves; it reminds me of the hypnosis method of having a subject stare into a rotating pinwheel. Nature uses the spiral in many ways to create life; from the shell of a snail and the curl of a vine to the early development of nearly all vertebrates. It is a shape not uncommon in artistic design; especially during the art nouveau period where furniture, textiles, architecture, etc were fancifully adorned with flowing lines witnessed in nature. I continue to see it today in the scroll ironwork of blacksmiths and in photographs, noteably the album cover art from Bauhaus and Nine Inch Nails. It seems to evoke the question...is the spiral going up or downward; giving an element of time to the old "half full or half empty" paradox. It's complicated...it's moving...it's changing...it's...life. |
