Gold Rush

I like to bring together traditional forged steel and glass and this piece was purely an attempt to do so. I love creating flowing curves with nothing more than my forge, hammer and anvil. I thought a simple scroll would make a nice base for a glass piece and the result exceeded my hopes. I chose to symbolize the design by using lots of gold colored glass and positioning the scroll like a dollar sign. The name "Gold Rush" came about after reading about a current gold mining town way up in the mountains of Montana called Independence. The hardships some people have endured in an effort to strike it rich are inspiring, but at the same time I wonder how much richer they might be if not driven by greed.

Blown glass vessel and forged mild steel. Tig welded.
