Blues and Purples are always very popular and I have found a number of these colors that work well together. The process of making an open bowl or a plate reminds me of breaking open a geode. You put all the color on the inner layers and then cover it up, in this case with white and blue glass powder. When you open up the bowl, the colors burst forth as you see them for the first time. The process is the opposite for a vase where you get to visualize the colors during the entire process. Its a lot of fun, but can certainly be heart breaking when a piece doesn't make it and you see the wonderful design you were creating cracked into pieces on the floor. You have to love the process, not just the end-product, to make it in glassblowing. Blue-Purple Bowl...$90 |
Blues and Greens are a great combination and certainly look good against the backdrop of my garden. The Green in this design is a very lime or golden green and two blues were used one a light blue and the other a deep turquoise. Some of the colors reacted in this design to give a slight peach color, as well. Blue-Green Bowl...$90 |
This bowl is similar to the one above but it lacks any blue. Also, it was not encased with a white powder coating. I have found that a similar effect can be achieved by sandblasting the outside leaving a frosted glass texture. This extra bit of cold work has been very popular in our shop.
