Bloom was inspired by my observations of life in unlikley places. Have you ever marveled at a tree growing on a rocky hillside or a weed pushing up through the pavement? I wanted to celebrate this strength, conviction and perserverance with a colorful floral shape in glass, while paying homage to the normally invisible root network beneath the surface. I chose to use this glass piece even though an error was made during the process of fluting the top and an area of the petals stuck together. It suggested to me a time seldom captured in the life of a flower; the moment just prior to the last petal unfolding.

  

  

Measures 28" tall and the base is 12" x 9". Blown glass flower and forged stainless steel stem and roots. Flame-cut diamond plate and mild steel base. Tig welded.
